  • Nature conservation

Sydhavnstippen Naturpleje is a group of local volunteers who enjoy working outdoors on the conservation of the large open area Sydhavnstippen.

Volunteer role: Removing invasive species, scything the grass, raking, cutting back and trimming hawthorn, maintaining natural areas by removing litter and keeping the paths accessible for the visitors.

Time commitment: Flexible. The nature care group meets at least once a week, usually on Sundays from 10 am. to 1 pm., but it is also possible to participate on other days after agreement.

Nordic Ocean Watch strives to protect the ocean through volunteer efforts, awareness-raising, and concrete actions along the coasts. Their goal is to build a community around ocean protection and contribute to a cleaner and healthier marine environment in the Nordic region. 

Volunteer role: Support communication and create SoMe content, assist with data collection and outreach related to our marine environment projects, support organizational work with logistics, partnerships, and coordination, help plan and run cleanup events and workshops, participate in beach cleanups and help to register collected waste.

Time commitment: Minimum 1 year engagement, approx. 2-4 hours a week (with flexibility)

The Climate Group is a community for everyone interested in climate justice, sustainability, and politics. It is part of ActionAid Denmark (Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke), a movement fighting for a more just and sustainable world.

Volunteer role: Participate in working groups and research topics such as European climate policy, including “loss and damages” and how the Global North can economically compensate the Global South for climate change-related destruction of infrastructure, etc. The group also plans an annual climate festival.

  • Sustainable food

Wefood is a store under Folkekirkens Nødhjælp, which fights food waste by selling surplus food and other products and gives the profits to people in need. 

Volunteer role: Help at one of the Wefood stores, which involves cleaning, receiving and registering goods, and serving customers at the checkout.

Time commitment: 2–3 shifts per month

FødevareBanken is a food waste organization that collects surplus food from food companies and supermarkets and distributes it to social organizations such as shelters, drop-in centers, crisis centers, schools, food communities, and more.

Volunteer role: Assistant (scans items during the route), driver or driver assistant (runs collection routes), warehouse volunteer (sorts and organizes food), warehouse volunteer with vehicle responsibility (checks vehicles for cleanliness and safety), kitchen volunteer (prepares lunch for the team).

Time commitment: Shifts take place on weekdays between 8 AM and 4 PM. The duration depends on the route – typically between 4 and 8 hours. Flexible with timing for warehouse tasks, but they must still be during weekdays. They prefer if you can commit to one regular shift per week – but this is not a requirement.

Københavns Fødevarefællesskab (Copenhagen Food Cooperative) is a local food co-op that supplies its members with fresh, seasonal, organic and biodynamic produce through direct trade with small-scale local farmers. 

Volunteer role: Helping at the warehouse at Hotel- & Restaurantskolen, driving, packing and distributing vegetables, communication (social media, photography), website and database tasks, participate in monthly common meetings

  • Circular Economy (Secondhand shops)

2nd PAW  is a non-profit organisation running a second hand shop selling products for dogs. It’s 100% powered by volunteers and all profits are donated to animal welfare organizations.

Volunteer role: Service customers in the shop, receive and sort donated products and clean up the shop. 

Time commitment: You need to volunteer for at least 6 months and take a minimum of 2 shifts/month. The shifts are in shop opening hours (Thursday and Friday 13-18 and Saturday and Sunday 11-15).

Mændenes Hjem is an independent institution offering a wide range of social and healthcare services to people who are homeless, drug users, or otherwise vulnerable. The thrift store helps to finance the Clothing Depot and supports clothing distribution to vulnerable people in the area. 

Volunteer role: help at the Clothing Depot with sorting clothing donations and distribute warm, clean, and dry clothes to socially vulnerable people in Vesterbro; shop assistant at Mændendes Hjem Trift Store (ex: open/close the shop, assist customers, price items, and help maintain the store). 

Time commitment: Minimum one shift of 4-5 hours every other week. The Clothing Depot shifts are Monday to Sunday from 10:00–18:00

  • Support for homeless and vulnerable groups

Kompasset Korshærs’ drop-in centers (“varmestuer”) offer anonymous support for anyone who is socially vulnerable, homeless, or experiencing loneliness. As a volunteer, you can get involved at one of the following drop-in centers: Mariatjenesten or Varmestuen (both in Vesterbro), Fedtekælderen (Christianshavn), or Drejervej Varmestue (Nordvest).

Volunteer role: Building relationships, being present, serving coffee and meals, helping with clean-up, and contributing to a caring and inclusive atmosphere through conversations and games.

Time commitment: 

  • Mariatjenesten: 4,5 hours every other week – both day and evening shifts available. 
  • Varmestuen: 4 hours every other week – choose between monday, tuesday, friday and sunday. 
  • Fedtekælderen: Flexible – from a few hours per week to fixed shifts. 
  • Drejervej: 1-2 times per week between 9:00-14:30

GRACE CPH is a morning café for homeless and socially vulnerable people in Copenhagen, where free food, coffee/tea, clothing, basic guidance, sleeping spaces, and social interaction are offered.

Volunteer role: Practical tasks such as serving food, coffee, and tea, preparing food, cleaning up, washing dishes, hanging up clothes, and similar duties. There is also the opportunity to chat and spend time with guests, for example by playing a game or doing something creative.

Time commitment: There are no expectations or requirements regarding time commitment.

The shifts are usually from 7:45 AM to 12:00 PM.

EXIST works to stop human trafficking by supporting foreign women in prostitution with dignity and compassion. Through their night café, open from Wednesday night to Thursday morning (23h00-03h00), women can find a safe space to rest, connect, and access support for building a new life.

SheZone is a sports association exclusively for girls and women, located in Nørrebro and Tingbjerg. CPH:DOX (2026) and Buster (september 2025) are two film festivals that are looking for volunteers. Depending on your wishes and experience, you can take on various types of tasks before, during, and after the festival. 

Volunteer role: Production assistant, programme assistant, marketing, exhibition host, venue assistant, welcome team member, ticket sales.

GRACE CPH is a morning café for homeless and socially vulnerable people in Copenhagen, where free food, coffee/tea, clothing, basic guidance, sleeping spaces, and social interaction are offered.

Volunteer role: practical tasks such as serving food, coffee, and tea, preparing food, cleaning up, washing dishes, hanging up clothes, and similar duties. There is also the opportunity to chat and spend time with guests, for example by playing a game or doing something creative.

FødevareBanken is a food waste organization that collects surplus food from food companies and supermarkets and distributes it to social organizations such as shelters, drop-in centers, crisis centers, schools, food communities, and more.

Volunteer role: As a Kitchen volunteer you can help with preparing lunch for the volunteers, cleaning up, doing dishes, etc.

Time commitment: Shifts take place on weekdays between 8 AM and 4 PM. The duration depends but are typically between 4 and 8 hours. They prefer if you can commit to one regular shift per week – but this is not a requirement.

Our Asylum Children works to ensure the well-being and development of asylum-seeking children by providing legal counselling, family support, personal mentorship, and by advocating for their rights on a political level.
